Hubbard Park was shrouded in the clouds for most of my hike, with occasional rain. But conditions were perfect.
Visit #1540, Saturday 28 June 25, 6:35-10:15AM, 5.1 miles, 4.5 lbs. of litter.
Temps in the 60s, foggy with occasional showers.
This was a Power Tool Weekend®.
During last week's hike I developed a list of needed trail maintenance.
The fog and cool temps were a joy. I ran into my first shower at Echo Point, but it was short-lived and not worth donning my raincoat. I've heard this is something like the 15th Saturday in a row with rain! I reached the trailhead and the first tree on my agenda.
After tackling this tree, a steadier rain began to fall. I reached the top end of this trail and began walking toward Castle Craig where I encountered this sapling leaning over the road, not on my To-Do List, but it was now.
You can see by the road surface it was raining pretty steadily by now, but it stopped five minutes later.
South Mountain was shrouded as well.
On the trail below Castle Craig there was a large branch which was cantilevered over the trail and had been for some time. Not a pressing issue but I told myself next time I was in the area with my chainsaw I would remove it.
I made an about-face and hiked back up to the road leading from Castle Craig, until I reached the Blue Trail and my last tree of the day.
This tree fell recently and while not blocking the trail, the large branches were hanging low enough that they needed to be addressed.
By my records, this is religious tract #10 which I've found on the trails.
So what's your biggest problem? My biggest problem is finding religious tracts on the trails.
The clouds and fog were just beginning to lift when my hike ended.
